House Rules
Skills at rank 1 do not add to insight. Once a skill has been raised to rank 2, they contribute full insight. This means a skill at rank 1 is worth 0 insight, however a skill at rank 2 is worth 2 points, rank 3 is worth 3, and so on.
Restricted Items
All mechanics or character options that are listed as “Restricted” require permission from the Campaign Admin. This is achieved by contacting the Campaign Admin, and providing both an out-of-character explanation of the things you as a player want to do with that type of character, and an in-character fiction or character history that would explain how such a character will fit into the setting. Certain options, like ronin and Minor Clan samurai, will be much easier than others, like Brotherhood monks; others will be essentially impossible (non-human characters or Lost). The focus of the game is on the interactions of the Great Clans on an Empire-wide level, and the more divergent from that focus a character’s concept is, the more justification will be required.
Fiction Submission Guidelines and Rewards
As in previous Heroes of Rokugan Campaigns, we strongly encourage you, the players, to help us craft the story that we all want to tell. Most global campaigns only allow the players to experience the adventures that the campaign administration wants you to, while we strive to continue AEG's legacy of giving the players and fans of their games the tools they need to interact in a much more personal way. These tools can be quite powerful, and as the saying goes, that power comes with an equal amount of responsibility.
Submissions should be sent to Mike Sander for review and must include:
Player Name
Player Email Address
Character Name
Character Rank and School
What you hope to achieve with your submission
There are many things that can happen as a result of your storytelling, and just as many things that cannot. Listed below are several possible rewards for submitting a fiction to the Campaign Admin.
Access to Restricted Schools
Access to Advanced/Alternate Paths
Political Favors
Glory and Honor Gains
Removal of Disadvantages
Gaining Advantages
Other rewards at Campaign's discretion
Some of these options will not be immediately available, as your characters have only just come to the notice of their superiors, and will have to prove themselves worthy of advancement or special recognition.
A Certificate will be issued to you by the Campaign Admin authorizing the reward, which is to be kept with your character sheet and Mod Certs.
In very rare cases, a request will be denied, but only after an attempt has been made to find a way to make it happen. Most often, a request will be denied because the story that was provided was not adequate for the size of the reward. Becoming a sensei for your school's dojo will take much more than a simple 1-page story. It may involve several short fictions, a module proposal, or possibly some volunteer work for the campaign.
If you create someone or something we think is cool, we may decide to re-use them, even if we don't put your story on the website or post it to the public. All characters, items and locations created in stories submitted to and approved by the Campaign Admin (or posted to the Campaign forum/group/list/wiki/facebook/geocities page) become property of the Campaign and AEG and maybe used in future modules or fictions. Whenever possible, we will try to keep to the spirit of the character as created, but that's not a guarantee.
Again, send your stories to
Mike Sander for campaign review.
Status
Status gained that comes as a position is static. It does not go up or down as a result of mod rewards. That is a Social Position. Mod gains come into play in your base personal status. If you have a social position, it is read first for your rank. Should your pc encounter another pc with the same Social Position, then rank is measured by your comparative personal status. Should your personal status be higher then your social position, then your rank is figured off the higher of the two, other then for authority for that specific duty.
One last thing:
The Campaign reserves the right to reward your characters for Doing Cool Stuff! If your benevolent Campaign Admin deems you worthy of reward, be courteous with your two refusals and politely accept it.A note on sexuality in the campaign
The campign contains several adult themes, including the concept that samurai are often (if discretely) sexually active. At no point, however, should any of the events in this campaign turn into a rape scene - whether by physical force or by taking away a player's control of their character through social mechanics. Such content is NOT appropriate for Heroes of Rokugan!
